Italy - Modern Saints Pilgrimage

Carlos Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frasatti

Your journey begins today by boarding your international flight to Milan!

Upon arrival in Milan, the pilgrimage begins with a solemn Opening Mass at the magnificent Milan Duomo, a stunning example of Gothic architecture and a symbol of faith. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided walk through the historic city center, absorbing the vibrant atmosphere, followed by a welcome dinner and group reflection to prepare hearts for the journey ahead.

Today is dedicated to the inspiring life of Carlo Acutis, the young Milanese blessed known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist. Visit the church of Santa Maria Segreta, where Carlo’s family tomb is located. Afterwards, explore the extraordinary international exhibition of Eucharistic Miracles—an exhibit Carlo himself helped promote. The afternoon will include moments of prayer, reflection, and Mass, accompanied by catechesis specially designed for youth.

Visit the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio, one of Milan’s oldest churches, dedicated to the great bishop and Doctor of the Church. Reflect on his role as a shepherd and defender of the faith in early Christianity. The afternoon offers free time for further exploration or silent prayer. The day concludes with an evening Mass and group prayer.

Leaving Milan, the pilgrimage continues with a meaningful stop at the Sanctuary of La Verna, nestled in the Tuscan Apennines. This sacred place is where St. Francis received the stigmata. Visit the basilica and the Chapel of the Stigmata, surrounded by peaceful nature that invites deep contemplation. After celebrating Mass and personal prayer time, the journey continues to Assisi, arriving in the evening for check-in and rest.

Spend the day immersed in the Franciscan spirit. Tour the Basilica of St. Francis, admiring its beautiful frescoes and relics. Visit San Damiano, where St. Francis heard God’s call, offering a moment for personal prayer and reflection. In the afternoon, visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the tomb of Carlo Acutis, now in Assisi, honoring his modern witness of faith. The theme of the day, “Holiness in the Digital Age,” includes moments of reflection and group dialogue.

Enjoy a day devoted to quiet prayer and nature with a walk to the Eremo delle Carceri, a hermitage where St. Francis sought solitude and communion with God. This is a perfect moment for silent meditation, personal prayer, and confession for those who wish. The afternoon is free for further exploration or relaxation. In the evening, gather for a prayer vigil with music to deepen communal worship.

Depart early for Turin, with a midday break en route. Upon arrival, visit Valdocco, the spiritual home of St. John Bosco, founder of the Salesian order and mentor to youth. The day concludes with an evening Mass and an introduction to Pier Giorgio Frassati, Turin’s blessed, known for his social activism and vibrant faith.
